A Bug On The Ceiling

Coming from a long list of portrait photographers I love faces with character! I’m also patient enough to wait for just the perfect expression. The photo below was a keeper!

Share Your World – 2016 Week 13

Are you left or right handed?

I am right handed.

If you had only one TV, would you prefer the TV in the living room or another room?

I prefer the TV in the living room in front of a comfy couch or recliner.

Have you ever participated in a distance walking, swimming, running, or biking event? Tell your story.

I’ve never participated in any event but I did walk the 65 acre Oregon Zoo circuit about 200 times a year. πŸ™‚

It Was A Dark & Dreary Night…

Casual FridayActually, it was a bright & sunny day although it started in the dark and was certainly windy and chilly. I spent yesterday, March 29th, on an all day ordeal involving hours on a rickety bus ride next to an old fat vet with a bad case of gas. I had to get an MRI at the VA Hospital in Jamaica Plain, MA and used the shuttle system for free transport there and back.

Snoopy TypingMy day started at 5:00 a.m. and finished at 4:00 p.m. with my return exhausted after hours of completing chores at that hospital that included that very lengthy MRI, having blood drawn and completing an updated, validated Veteran’s ID card. I must return to my VA Clinic in Worcester, MA to pick up new script and medications I managed to get ordered while I waited for my initial shuttle bus. I try not to waste opportunities like this. I returned home dog tired, poked full of holes in both arms and a few bald spots where IV lines held down by that ouchless tape that always hurts to remove from a hairy arm. I hit the sack very early last night as I could barely keep my eyes open as this old body was pushed to its limit. Today, is another day. πŸ™‚

The MRI on my kidney cyst was negative by the way. It’s benign. πŸ™‚ The results of these tests are so fast I always get phone calls on my cell phone while making the 30 minute drive home from Worcester. The leave messages I check when I get home. πŸ™‚

P.S. – This new & improved WordPress sucks once again. It doesn’t allow the easy resizing of graphics that yield good word wrap editing. I sure get tired of their “improvement” all the time. Leave well enough alone WordPress!

Film Strip Frame

Easter 2016 is behind us now so it’s time to display a few of the photos from the luncheon prepared for us on that special occasion. I decided to use one of my favorite framing techniques that involves utilizing an old film strip template set up for three 4″x6″ pictures. It’s easy to exactly place the photos using Photoshop. The title lettering uses a light shade of gray for contrast. I haven’t taken the time to make other similar templates for framing more than three so I’m posting my favorite 3 captures that day. πŸ™‚

Lady In The Scarf Editing

Every now and then I like to put up a post showing you before and after comparisons using my original RAW file capture next to the finished, edited image. Some of this editing takes a long time because I’m turning a quick grab snapshot into a framable portrait. I edit every image I take because I exclusively shoot in RAW format go give me all the information captured in that frame. The camera does no editing. When shooting indoors under fluorescent lighting there’s a color balance correction to cool down the original file. I know this going in so rather than using a flash unit that is harsh and blows out color saturation I choose to always shoot from available light and correct for any color shift in post processing.

As you can see I eliminated all the distracting elements from the original and cropped the image for composition. I removed items from the background and applied a vignette to highlight the young lady. She is one of the senior center’s regular volunteers who does such an excellent job.

Our Master Videographer

William Albin is the videographer at the Uxbridge Senior Center. During each posted event he comes with his bag of gear, sets it all up, and digitally records what’s happening. He then posts the footage to YouTube so that everybody can view it.

How Happy Can You Be?

What a fun day we had at the Uxbridge Senior Center! There were guests bearing gifts, visitors offering free hugs and a great meal fixed by our chef, LynneΒ McPherson. I took plenty of pictures as everyone was in a cheerful mood as the staff, complete with bunny ears, waited on them.

Easter Postcard

The simplest photos can be used in many different ways. I like my bunny on the hearth Easter photo so much I combined it with my vertical postcard template to make it a form of greeting card. If found in a store I would think it would be in the high end card section. πŸ™‚
