It’s not every day you go to a zoo and see the wild animals sharing the sidewalk you’re using. The Southwick Zoo in Mendon, MA is such a place. There are deer in the forest you can pet or hand feed. There are peacocks strolling along the pathways with zoo visitors. There is a chipmunk exhibit of a community but when you turn around there are way more chips outside that exhibit all around you than inside the exhibit. It’s a wide open zoo that encourages visitors to get involved with the animals.
I captured one of these sightings when a peacock came strutting along the asphalt sidewalk right along side these little girls. Some people grabbed for their cameras as if this was an escaped bird but I can assure you the staff knows where their animals roam. 🙂
