Aldabra Tortoise – Armor

Meet Armor the giant Aldabra Tortoise. These animals can reach a hefty 500 pounds and live over 150 years old. Up close they look thoroughly prehistoric, with large, jagged projectiles on their huge shell. They have an extremely long neck that can reportedly reach low tree branches in the wild. They can be found on the island of Aldabra in the Seychelles. Their population numbers in excess of 100,000.

Armor can be found at the Southwick Zoo wight next to the Wallaby exhibit. He’s easy to photograph as he’s not exactly a speed demon. 🙂
